  •                                                                                  Prof. Aleksander Surdej

     

     

    Ambassador Aleksander Surdej took up his duties as Permanent   Representative of Poland to the OECD on 19 August 2016.

    Prior to his government service Aleksander Surdej worked as a professor of economics at the Cracow University of Economics (CUE) and the head of the Department of European Studies. He graduated in international economics at the CUE and in sociology at the Jagiellonian University. He completed an International Studies program at SAIS Johns Hopkins University, Ph.D. program at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, was twice a fellow of Salzburg Global Seminar and a research fellow at Robert Schuman Center of the EUI in Florence, UNU WIDER in Helsinki and NIAS in Wassenaar.

    He is an expert in international economics, international regulatory policies, development economics and in global public policies. Aleksander Surdej is an author and editor of 14 books and more than 70 articles related to international economics published in Polish and international scientific journals. Recently Mr. Surdej has been working on the design of the mechanisms of cooperation in international economy stressing the role of international organizations in the provision of global public goods and in regulating business environment.

    As a policy analyst Mr. Surdej collaborated with the Wim Kok group in the 2002 analysis of the consequences of EU enlargement, he contributed to the World Bank studies on labour market regulations in Poland and prepared several expert reports for the Polish government in the period from 1997-2001.

    He has coordinated and participated in more than dozen international research projects related to informal work, higher education, vocational training, family firms and small business. He has participated in many international academic conferences in Europe, the USA, South Korea, Turkey and in the UAE. He lectured in the USA, Italy, Germany.

    For several years Mr. Surdej has writing press articles and commentaries on international economic and political affairs for Polish and international media.

    Aleksander Surdej speaks English, French, Italian and Russian. He has translated books from Italian and articles from French and English.

    M. Aleksander Surdej is married to Ms. Irena Surdej and they have four children.
